So yeah today my ps3 randomly shut off right before a GB match. When I turn it on the regular green light comes on and the ps3 starts but then around 1-2 seconds later it shuts off again and the light flashes red....Normally I would just get it repaired but the only repair shop near me is closed for the holidays. My warranty also expired recently, and I'd rather not go through the 3 month process of dealing with sony.
Does anyone know a quick fix to the issue mentioned above? Keep in mind that I am pretty skilled when it comes to electronics.
So far I have already:
- Turned it off and turned it back on again -_-
- Tried a factory reset
- Let the Ps3 rest for a few hours and cool down then start it
- Carefully opened it up and removed all dust from inside the console
- Tried a different hard drive
I ruled out it being the HDD or damage to the motherboard. The console seems fine it just doesn't work. I'm leaning towards it being an issue with the fan because of the sound it makes however nothing appears to be stuck and the fan is fairly clean. I do also hear a very quiet squealing sound when the console is turned on which is also coming from the side of the ps3 where the fan and cpus are located.
Anyone know how I can at least get my game out without turning the console on?
It could be a problem with the power supply or you have something caught in your fan.
As for getting the game out, Just open up the blu-ray drive and take the game out.
I'm sure you can find a guide or something on youtube or google.
To get the game out:
Have the PS3 in standby (solid red light)
Hold the eject button until the game comes out (3-5 sec)
To the other problem:
Before it starts to blink red is it showing a yelow light for a second or 2?
If it does you have YLOD. Thats a fault in the main board connection to the CPU and GPU.
If you do have a YLOD, then the PS3 would have to be repaired by sony, maybe at a cost. My PS3's has YLOD twice now and sony repaired the first time for £150 (back when sony was having financial troubles) and the second for free. Alternativley you could try to fix it for free using . However Sony would no longer help you if you remove the warranty sticker. NOTE: before trying out the fix, make sure you are definitley sure that it is a YLOD error, check the symptoms along on www.ylod.net/what-is-yellow-lights-of-death.html
Nothing is caught in the fan for sure. I can't eject the disk because the ps3 doesnt stay on long enough for me to do so. Opening the bluray drive is sort of my last resort. Also all the cables are fine I checked them on my cousins ps3.
chances are, you do have a YLOD. I suggest that you contact sony as they "might" replace the ps3 for free and "will" return the game back to you. If they don't offer you a good deal for the fix then it is up to you to decide if you should open it as the last resort
